Case History of an Autism and ADHD Child
A 2.1 years female child presented with delayed speech, only up to monosyllable
words, i.e. 6 months of speech at 2.1 years of age.
She did not respond to her name, did not speak to anyone, did not play with other
kids and was involved in very few activities of her interest. Eye contact was absent.
She exhibited antisocial behavior, like hitting others, biting, scratching with nails
and hair pulling.
Constipation was present from 3 months of age, which was resistant to multiple
treatments. She passed hard motions with difficulty once in 3-4 days, with very
foul-smelling stools and the time taken for defecation was more than 30 minutes.
She often gave weird looks and had no fear of any danger.
Indian integrated medicine was started from the 4th day of diagnosis. No other
treatment was taken.
Birth History
First born, by cesarian section, at 28 years, mother had hypertension (150/90)
antenatally. Baby cried just after birth and was kept in NICU for 1 day to give
phototherapy for hyperbilirubinemia. Breast feeding was started from day 1 and
continued till 1 year 5 months.
No family history of similar complaints was present.
Physical Examination
Anthropometry was normal for her age (weight, height, head circumference –
greater than the 99th percentile, 90th percentile, 93rd percentile respectively).
All systems examination was normal except neurology and psychology.
She did not respond to her name, had no eye contact, was involved only in
activities of her interest. Un-necessary running was noted.
Parents opted for Treatment of Indian Integrated Medicine and no other therapy.
