We need to keep vitamin D levels between 70 – 100 ng/ml to get its optimal benefits. Below 70 ng/ml benefits of vitamin D will not be there, above 100 ng/ml toxicity may start, so it is a narrow range, which we have to maintain for whole of our life.
Report in nmol/L needs conversion by dividing with 2.5 to get answer in ng/ml.
Ayurved teaches us, how much to use in each patient.
People in Pitt will tolerate the lowest dose, i.e. 6000 IU/day. Some people even lower than that. Lower dose is tolerated in warm climate. No injections can be given in summers. Oral vitamin D needs fat for its absorption.
People in Vaat and Kough will benefit with higher doses. 9,000-10,000/ day. In cold climate, injections are preferred. Treating Vaat and Kough with lower dose will not give results. Vitamin D injection of 6 L will last for 4 months, 3 L will last for 1 to 2 months. Dosing system for each patient needs to be set according to his needs. Some diseases and drugs require higher dose, e.g. Nephrotic syndrome, anti-epileptic medicines.
Please do not give back to back injections as it will cause toxicity.
In intolerance of vitamin D, person feels excess heat, heaviness in head, as vitamin D is a fraction of Sun. Immediately give plane water enema, which can be repeated one hourly or as required, till the person feels comfortable. Food items with cold taseer, will bring down the heat e.g. awala morabba, gulkand, agare ka petha, rasgulla. Tap water napkin on lower abdomen, below the naval, changing every half an hour, cold hip bath and taking cold water bath will help in decreasing heat.
Lower dose gives vitamin D a label of ineffectiveness and higher dose of dangerous vitamin.
Using vitamin D correctly is an art which has to be learnt with the help of Ayurved and Nauropathy knowledge.
